The Holland Library, NMCI is a focal point for students outside of the classroom environment.
Named in honour of John Philip Holland (1841– 1914), the renowned Irish marine engineer who developed the first submarine to be formally commissioned by the US Navy, the NMCI Library offers much more than just a quiet place to study. The library provides access to 7000+ books , with many titles having a particular maritime focus. Subjects covered range from Maritime Law, Seafaring, Meteorology, Marine Engineering, Navigation and much more. NMCI students and staff can also access an impressive collection of reference material, eBooks, periodicals, journals and magazines.
Students can use open access computers, use our individual or group study spaces and access online library databases and other resources, all of which will enhance your studies in the National Maritime College.

There are 2 bookable study pods in the NMCI library. These pods are great for practising presentations and working collaboratively with other students. Each pod can accomoadate up to 4 students. Pods are equipped with a flat screen, independent lighting and laptop connectivity. Please note that pods have sound muffling to reduce noise but are not entirely soundproofed, so headphones/earbuds are recommended.

The MTU Library website provides students, staff and researchers with easy access to the library’s resources, services, and information — anytime, anywhere. It serves as a digital gateway to the library’s catalogue, databases, e-books, research tools, and guides.
The website also helps users learn how to find, evaluate and use information effectively through our online Assignment Toolkit, as well as providing referencing support and research support.
Additionally the MTU library website allows students to reserve study spaces, view past exam papers, contact library staff, and stay up to date on the latest library news and events or view library opening times. In short, our website extends the library’s support beyond its physical walls and makes academic success more accessible.
All MTU students & staff can access Databases and e-Journals via the MTU Library webpage. Simply click on the E-Journals tab to be taken to a listing of all e-Journals and the subjects covered by the databases. Many of our databases include content specifically relevant to Maritime Studies.
MTU Library provides access to the Proquest eBook-Central platform which provides access to a vast collection of titles.There are many benefits to eBooks including instantaneous online access, the ability to search an entire eBook for a specific word or term, download titles to your personal device or even print sections.
