A Data Management Plan is a document that describes how you will manage, store, share, and preserve your research data throughout and beyond your project. Most major research funders now require DMPs as part of grant applications.
MTU library provides access to DMPOnline, a tool for creating, reviewing, and sharing data management plans. DMPOnline includes templates for major funders including:

Data collection: What data will you collect or generate? In what formats?
Documentation: How will you document your data to make it understandable?
Storage and backup: Where will data be stored during the project? How will it be backed up?
Security and confidentiality: How will you ensure data security and protect sensitive information?
Intellectual property: Who owns the data? Are there any restrictions on use?
Data sharing: How and where will data be shared? When will it be made available?
Preservation: Where will data be preserved long-term? For how long?
Responsibilities: Who is responsible for data management activities?
Costs: What resources are needed for data management?

Remember: A Research DMP should be treated as a living document that can be updated throughout the lifecycle of your research project. It can be downloaded and shared, as necessary.
