MTU Data Policies

MTU Research Data Related Policies

It is important to be aware of MTU policies surrounding data management from the “Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Study" section of the MTU website. Relevant documents include the "Research Data Management" policy, with attention to be drawn to awareness and management of data through training, policy, guidance and support.

This policy in particular states "Research data should be compliant to the principles of FAIR data", and the also that proposals have a Research Data Management Plan (RDMP). Data is also managed by following the Research Integrity Policy with guidance from the "European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity". This documentation provides a starting point for researchers on some of the formal policies and procedures that have been implemented locally, nationally, and internationally.

Two other policies that are important for researchers to be aware of include MTU’s “Open Access” policy and the “Code of Good Practice in Research” . Both refer to the above, and the Open Access policy as follows: "the University aligns with the requirements of the Code of Good Practice in Research, the National Principles for Open Access Policy Statement, the National Framework on the Transition to an Open Research Environment, and the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity."

In addition to the RDM Policy, the Code of Good Practice in Research, Postgraduate Regulations, and Research Integrity Policy, you should be familiar with the Human Research Ethics Policy and related forms which both have Research Data Management requirements.  You should also be familiar with MTU’s Data Protection Policy.

This overview will aid in developing your understanding about the University’s stance on data management, and how you can conduct your research in tandem with best practice.
