Further Support & Training

Alongside the research support that is available at MTU’s Research Office, MTU Library provides specific training and support in data management and data management plans, throughout the project lifecycle of your research.

Data Management and FAIR principles are part of several modules that can be taken across the university. You can access self-guided digital badge course, Foundations of Open Science

If you would like to embed some of this training in your own department, please contact us: swordcork@mtu.ie

Support

The Research Data Management (RDM) Librarian, based in the Library, the Research Integrity and Compliance Officer, and the Research Office work in tandem and regularly provide support, advice, and training to researchers at MTU to appropriately manage their research data. They assist researchers, faculty, and students with data management queries in general, with compliance issues, with the University’s research related policies, and with compliance on legal and funder requirements.

The RDM Librarian provides several means of support with service in scoping, drafting, completing, and reviewing Research Data Management Plans at the pre-award and post-award stages of grant application. Support and updates in changes to data storage and preservation requirements are also their area of expertise. Training and instruction are provided through webinars, providing guidance, working on documentation and networking with national and European groups and consortia who are invested in Open Research and the principles of Open Science.

If you are applying for funding, you will need to develop a Research Data Management Plan. You can do this by email, and it should take 7-10 days to set up a plan. You can also book an appointment with a Research Data Management Librarian here: swordcork@mtu.ie

Please allow 14 working days in advance of the funding deadline if you want to prepare a plan in the best possible manner, as some parts of the plan will require adequate reflection upon the specific needs of your research project proposal.
